Dear CVCC,
Here is this month's 599 VA Newsletter.
Prez Sez:
April will be my last meeting as President. The past two years have gone by
fast and I have really enjoyed my involvement in our Club. The outcome of
the March meeting once again proved to me that the membership of the CVCC
can be counted on to come through in a pinch! The Club will always continue
as long as the spirit of cooperation and determination lives on, as shown in
our last meeting
Please provide your support and encouragement to our President elect, Jerry
K4KJL. We will certainly have some challenges ahead, but I am confident
Jerry can lead us through the new organization structure we adopted and
provide the direction we need. Along with our Treasurer, Bob NK4H, and
Secretary, Marie K4KML, the CVCC is in good hands to ensure success for the
future.
Thanks to you all for making the CVCC a wonderful organization. I look
forward to seeing everyone at the Annual Picnic, May 14 and over the coming
summer months as well.

DX de DR
I just learned of the passing of another of RIchmond's DX'ers. Dr Hal
Johnson, K4JVE age 91 has left us. Hal had not been active in recent years.
The last time I saw him was in 2000 when he and his wife attended the 50
year celebration of my career in amateur radio. RIP, Hal.
On a happier note Tony, KC4AUF reports that 13 of the 15 members of the
Dominion DX Group worked 3Y0X on one or more bands. This is a great
accomplishment since many of these operators are new to DXing and even to
amateur radio. Congratulations! Tony himself got them on 7 bands and 3
modes and was especially happy to work them as XR9A/MM while they were using
the Buckmaster multiband dipole which he sent them.
Retirement is agreeing with Puck, W4PM. Using his magic wires he worked two
HS0's on 20, TZ6 on 40, CN2R on 160, V51, 5B4 and FR5 on 30 and 4S7AL on
17...all on CW. Puck also reports that he has received his CW DXCC using
exclusively LOTW confirmations. Knowing how Puck dislikes filling out qsls
LOTW was make to order for him.
W1ZA continues to shake down his new setup and found all systems a go during
the VA QSO party. A ring rotor for the log periodic will pretty much
complete the basic setup.
W4TNX continues to be busy getting his new QTH ready and with hiring people
at work.
Our soon to be ex-president, NW4V found time to work a YJ0 on 17, the TY5
gang on 80, 40 and 20 and C9 on 30.
WK4Y managed to work PJ2 on 160 SSB and a J6 on 60.
Your editor was happy with OH0R on 160 ssb, J3, J6 and HH4 on 60 and
several TY5's on RTTY. I have been trying for the J5's on RTTY, but they
only seem to use that mode when I am at work! Maybe I should retire.
See you all in the VU4 pileups April 18 to 26.

Progress on the new QTH:
· Final plans are out for bids, due back the week ending 4/7/2006.
· Still need to get a final OK on the soils report for septic system and
irrigation well - then need a survey
· Site has been cleared and graded - most of the driveway in place
· Dominion Resources 25 KVA Xfmr has been set (only requested single phase,
for now)
· My HBDX-40 tower and several beam antennas are in the "barn" on the new
property
· I estimate I am 1 month behind my original schedule and will probably slip
one more month, due to permits and financing.
· Estimated completion date is now October 1, 2006
Hope to make the April meeting - I would be glad to volunteer to put on a
meeting program or two in the next DX season dealing with a "club project"
on OWA antennas - 6m or 10m. With the anticipated high solar numbers for the
next cycle, my preference would be for a 6m OWA project, but 10m would be OK
also. With the synergies of a club project, we could all benefit from "mass
purchasing" power and the diverse "scrounging ability" that hams have. My
guess is that a 6m / 6 element OWA would cost around $200 depending on
"scrounging" ability. This would be a full size beam on a 14 foot boom with
a 6 foot in-tower mast. (You can buy 2 inch diameter aluminum locally in 20
foot lengths - 14 feet for the boom, 6 foot for the mast).

Please send any newsletter (NL) items to me the Friday before a monthly CVCC
meeting and I will try to get your info into the NL.
Tnx, John
