This past Saturday, 7 hams from GNARC and SARA participated in International Lightship and Lighthouse Weekend. (www.illw.net).? We were on Sheffield Island, off the Norwalk shore.? The Seaport Association generously provided us transportation to and from the island.We put up two resonant dipoles, one on 40m and one on 20m, 90 degrees to each other. We also used the club?s band filters to further reduce the chance of interference, and it worked well. N1EV was used as the call sign. We ran two Icom IC-7300s. One on battery, one on the island?s solar system.Many contacts were made on 40m, and a fair amount on 20m, although that band was much tougher.? We worked stations all up and down the East coast and into Canada, including several other lighthouses. Everyone got a chance to operate, and Lyz W1LYZ made her first ever HF contact. ?Time to get that general!Unfortunately, due to weather, the captain cancelled the later ferries, so we had to pack up quickly and take an earlier boat back. But everyone enjoyed the session, and we had enough time to operate and tour the lighthouse.Lyz W1LYZ, Peter KC1PWH, Jon AI1V, Tom W1TEG, Steve KB1YLQ did most of the operating.Special thanks to Paul W1PPL who came out early with me on the staff boat to get a jump start on antenna setup. If you want to ride in the event, then you need to:?Registration and Line Up (same start location)
Due to Construction modifications at our starting point, please try to your best to Preregister at Captains Cove in Bpt on 9/8/18 from 11-5pm this year (or have someone do it for you!) always on the Saturday before the ride,
*RIDERS AND PASSENGERS will need to already have a wristband to enter the parking lot on Ride day 9/9/18.?
Yes, you can still register on Ride day at the starting point in Norwalk, starting at 8:30 am - 10:30 am
UPDATE 5) *If you do still need to register on Ride Day then those Motorcycles will need to park on the street, and riders then walk in to the lot to register, and obtain their wristbands before being allowed to ride in to the parking lot to line up. We are using ALL LOTS for Staging Line Up this year! The Registration Tent in Norwalk will be near the driveway entrance this year.?
UPDATE 6)? REMEMBER - we make it easy! You can print the Registration Form from the website, fill it out, sign it, and someone else can bring it to Captains Cove for you the day before 9/8/18 on PreRegistration day! YOU EACH DO NOT HAVE TO COME TO CAPTAINS COVE IN PERSON!? We allow single individuals who come with dozens of registration forms already filled out and signed, so that one person preregisters dozens of Rider friends with the proper forms and fees - and we give them the proper wristbands and bandannas?

Amateur radio operators in southwestern Fairfield County are needed to
provide communications for the BikeTheBeach charity bike ride on Sunday
Sept 23.

The ride goes from Jennings Beach in Fairfield west to Darien and then back
on roads that roughly parallel Route 1.  Essentially, it's the same routes
as the MS Ride that we did in June, except that the MS Ride went east from
Stamford to Fairfield, and this goes west from Fairfield to almost Stamford.

We anticipate staffing a couple of SAG wagons as well as a couple of scout
vehicles and possibly some of the rest stops.  Current plans call for hams
from about 7:30am to about 1pm, with a few hams staying late until about
2pm.

This ride is put on by the Probus Club of Greater Bridgeport to raise funds
for support of developmentally disabled people.   The Probus Club was
founded in 1921 to raise money to support the developmentally challenged.
The Bike the Beach is a major part of their fundraising efforts.  This will
be the 29th Anniversary Bike the Beach event.

Note that the Probus Club has over 100 major sponsors for their activities,
so this is an excellent opportunity to make a showing for ham radio.

According to the Bike The Beach website
100% of the funds raised from Bike the Beach 2018 will be used to benefit
people with developmental disabilities through the activities of the Probus
Club of Greater Bridgeport and its support of other community organizations
such as The Kennedy Center, Inc.

GFARA is taking the lead on this one.  If you are willing to participate,
