I would suggest checking and listen for RFI getting into the radio - when installed and attached to the antenna with the engine "on":
- Run up rpms,
- turn on signals/ flashers
- hit the brake pedal several times in a row .
- turn headlights "on".
You may need to add a bunch of ground straps to various parts if the vehicle's parts and body to reduce/minimize/eliminate the noise.
