 will be Mobile Commutations.
Meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of each month at 8pm. They normally run about 90
 minutes, and consist of announcements, one or two presentations, and snacks and schmoozing.
Meetings take place in room 6-10C in the Stamford Government Center.?Click

Before many of our meetings, some members get together for an informal dinner at?John

WECA HIDDEN TRANSMITTER HUNT
SEPTEMBER 17, 2017

The WECA hidden transmitter hunt is open to All WECA members and guests.

The hidden transmitter will transmit in 146.565 MHz.

All traffic laws will be followed during this hunt. Drivers who are alone in a vehicle will stop the vehicle to locate the signal.

We will meet at 1:00PM at the Saxon Woods Pool parking lot, Mamaroneck Ave White Plains, NY ( near the Hutcheson River Parkway) to register for the hunt. All instructions will be provided at that time.

The hidden transmitter will be located within a 10 square mile area from the start point. It will NOT be located on private property.

During the hunt please do not confer with other stations or announce when you locate the xmtr.

After locating the xmtr you will proceed to the BBQ pit at the Westchester County Airport, Taxi Lane near the cell phone lot. 
We request that all participating bring ? stuff ? for the BBQ such as salads, deserts, bottled water or soda, etc. Weca will provide the hamburgers etc,

Each station upon registration will provide the exact vehicle mileage.? It will be noted again when locating the xmtr by the WECA member there. The time leaving the start site and location of the xmtr will be noted as well.

During the hunt please do not confer with other stations or announce when you locate the xmtr.

After locating the xmtr you will proceed to the BBQ pit at the Westchester County Airport, Taxi Lane near the cell phone lot. 
We request that all participating bring ? stuff ? for the BBQ such as salads, deserts, bottled water or soda, etc. Weca will provide the hamburgers etc,

Each station upon registration will provide the exact vehicle mileage.? It will be noted again when locating the xmtr by the WECA member there. The time leaving the start site and location of the xmtr will be noted as well.

Hi all,

A friend in Stamford living on his Pearson 424 is preparing to shove off for a extended cruise down the coast to winter in warmer climes. He knows I hold an Operator?s license (KC1YCU) and has asked me to help him learn the ropes of his IC-706 and SGC auto tuner before he leaves. I don?t have very much experience using this rig in anger and I?m looking for someone who has hands-on experience. 

If you have experience with SSB, it would be great if you could give my buddy a quick SSB usage lesson. He makes his living fixing anything on boats, is ex nuclear navy, highly capable with ships systems and is a great contact to have?especially if you are a boater.

Please let me know if you can lend a hand, and I?ll personally introduce you.

I have to report the sad news of the passing of George K2ZZ, owner of Radio Oasis. George was a good friend and a great supporter of the ham radio community. Many of us talked and seen him at the Newtown hamfest not but a couple of weeks ago. He will be sorely missed.

*Amateur Radio License Class Beginning in October 2017*





If you have ever been curious about getting an amateur (?ham?) radio
license, now is the time!  A free class will be given at the Greater
Norwalk Amateur Radio Club?s communications center starting October 18th,
2017.



With ham radios, you can communicate from the top of a mountain, your home,
or your car, all without relying on the Internet or a cell phone network.
You can take a radio wherever you go. You will also learn some basic
electronic skills that are helpful in daily life.



Having a ham radio license means that you have access to radio equipment
that can be used for many purposes.  While many hams use the radios purely
as a hobby, others also use them for serving the community. Local clubs
provide wide area communication for large events, like bike rides and
running races. We also use our radios to supplement communications during
CERT deployments.



The classes will begin on Wednesday October 18th and will take place weekly
on Wednesday nights through November 29 (no class Thanksgiving Eve Nov
22).  The classes will be from 6:30 to 9:30 at the Greater Norwalk Amateur
Radio Club?s communications center at 100 Fairfield Avenue in Norwalk
(right off Exit 14 of I-95).  There is no charge for the class, although we
will ask you to buy the Amateur Radio Relay League?s training manual for
$25.  In addition, it is suggested that you purchase an entry level radio
so you can begin to listen to things right away. They cost about $30 on
Amazon. We will have the manuals for sale at the class.



We will conduct the exam session for the license on Sat December 2 and
again on Wednesday December 6.



Once you have your license, you can use the entry level radios to be able
to talk all over the local area and the region using ham radio
infrastructure that is already in place. There are active clubs all over
Connecticut that will welcome you, no matter what your interests are.



The class will be taught by Jon Perelstein (AI1V) and Paul Lourd (WB2JVB).
Jon is president of the Stamford Amateur Radio Club and Paul is VP of
GNARC. Both are active CERT members in their towns.



Please RSVP to Paul Lourd (paul at lourd.com) as soon as possible so we can
have enough manuals on hand!

I even think it was before I got the cannon, and I put it up using my sling shot.

I can?t remember which Hamfest it was but when he heard my son got his technician ticket he presented Jeremy with a copy of the current repeater guide.

I was looking to see if there was any written history of SARA and

I lived in Springdale and remember working with Joe Leferson on the 
WR1ABR repeater.? I believe that SARA was formed so that the repeater 
could be built.? I remember that there were several of us in the 
original group, but only remember Joe's name at this time. I'd be 
curious to fill in the blanks in my memories.? I left Stamford in 1973, 
just when the repeater was going on the air.

For what it's worth, while I was never a member of SARA, I was a member of the Greenwich ARC (mainly a CD oriented group, although we did do Field Day), while growing up. The club treasurer was Alan MacCracken, W1EE. Alan gave me my novice and tech exams in the late 50s, and also was the family lawyer. It was nice to hear his call on the SARA repeater after he became an SK.
