Just a reminder that our SARA November meeting will be held tomorrow at 8 pm at the Stamford Government Center on the 6th floor. 

Terry will be doing a presentation on Grey Line DXing.

He will also be reviewing our Field Day placement results, if they are released in time before the meeting.

Disaster Relief Is the subject of this months program. Social from 7:00 to 7:30 pm - meeting starts at 7:30. Fairfield Police Station on Reef Road.

Two individuals will discuss amateur radio in support of disaster response.

Communications During Disasters and Emergencies - Dave Heiden, W1DVE, is the Senior Director of Emergency Services for the American Red Cross in this region.? He will discuss his experience deploying for the Red Cross, how Ham radio can be integrated into disaster response, the importance of building local auxiliary communication capacity for the future, and the role volunteers with communications knowledgeable can play during times of need.

Communications before, during and after disasters are critical to emergency operations and life safety, but are sometimes inadequate or severely disrupted.? Disasters such as the recent hurricanes have again brought to light the important role that Ham radio can play in filling the communication gaps and providing additional capacity for life-saving communications.?

Experience in Puerto Rico as a Ham Volunteer - Mike Miciukiewicz, K1MJM, just returned from Puerto Rico where he supported the amateur radio disaster communications effort.? His initial mission was to provide a way to gather outbound health and welfare messages and put them into the Red Cross?s Safe and Well System using Winlink.? However, the mission changed once he arrived and the needs turned out to be much greater.? Mike will relate his experiences during his three-week effort.

Unfortunately it must be some other club in Stamford CT that you're
thinking of.   For a lot of us, being able to operate with SARA was a
function of whether or not the ringers that Terry hired needed a break.

But the good news is that a number of us wound up operating with Norwalk,
where we had a great time.  So far Norwalk has picked up five new members
that I know of, and I think the number is going to be higher than that.

Our speaker this month will be Jeff Cronin KB1MZU.He will relate his trip to see the 2017 eclipse. Jeff also has been interested astronomy for many years and brings both his Ham interest and interest in astronomy in his presentation.The meeting is at the Fairfield police station - social from 7:00 pm to 7:30 - meeting starts at 7:30 pm.?
 
Please join me for a lightheartedmemoir of my Great American Road Trip to Wyoming to view the?2017 totalsolar eclipse. This is more of a general interest category than ham related butI promise I will mention ham radio a few times during the presentation.?My primary objective was to see the eclipse, which I did. The real story is theplaces I passed and all the great people I met along the way. Come see how mycarefully laid plans went delightfully astray as I zeroed in on my ultimategoal. Refreshments will be served.
