Subject: [CTSARA] Need help testing a Kenwood MC-50 microphone

Hello all,

I have a Kenwood MC-50 microphone that came from the estate of one of our former SARA members that I am trying to sell.

It appears to be in good condition, so I am betting that it will work just fine, but I would like to confirm that before trying to sell it
on QRZ.com.

Does anyone have a TS-520S, TS-530S or TS-830S, or any other Kenwood that requires a 4 pin plug that could help me test this mic?

According to the manual for it, it was designed to be used with any Kenwood ham rig requiring a microphone, so please also let me know if you have any Kenwood rigs from that era that are brothers or cousins of the above rigs that can be used to test it.

He was calling CQ and my interest did pique,
When he ended transmission with the words,
"Old St. Nick".
I answered back quickly, I used great dispatch,
If this were St. Nicholas, good God, what a catch!
We exchanged information, it was really quite graphic,
Then he came back and said,
"I've emergency traffic!"
His reindeer were tired, his elves in a grump,
If he didn't land soon, then his sleigh he would dump.
I thought very carefully, I thought very hard,
Then I gave him directions to my snow covered yard.
As he flew past my window, his hair like a mane,
He reined in his chargers and called them by name:
"Whoa, Anode! Whoa, Cathode! Whoa, Zener! Whoa, Diode!
Stop, Heater! Stop, Grid leak! Stop, Bias! Stop, Triode!
You're flying too low! you're flying too fast!
Look out, you dumb reindeer, his antenna mast!"
So into the backyard the reindeer did drop,
St. Nick, the elves, and the sleigh went kerplop!

The Norwalk club is going to run some on-air VHF practice for recent
graduates of our tech class, and we would like to invite other newly
licensed hams in the area to participate.

This will take place in two stages

*1.  Test your radio*
On Weds Dec 27 at 7:30pm and again on Weds Jan 3, get on your local
repeater (see below) and try to make contact with us via the repeater.  If
you don't have an external antenna on your house, try doing it from outside
your house.  Before Wednesday, you can also just try hitting your local
repeater. Example: ?WB2JVB listening on Norwalk 475?.  If someone answers,
don?t be afraid to have a chat. Just tell them you are new, and they will
help you along.  On the Wednesdays, Jon or I will call for ?checkins? on
the Stamford, Norwalk and Fairfield repeaters, so just listen to the one
that is closest to you.

*2.  Training*
On Sat Jan 6 or Sat Jan 13, come by the Norwalk Comm Center (100 Fairfield
Ave right off the I-95 northbound exit 14 off-ramp in Norwalk) and we'll be
available to talk with you about what kind of antennas you might be able to
put on your house or car to make your radio more effective.  We'll have
examples of various ways of mounting antennas, information about popular
base station VHF/UHF vertical antennas for FM operations, and information
about popular mobile antennas for cars.  We'll also have information (and
some examples) of various base/mobile radios that you might want to think
about buying to add to your range and convenience.

*Local Repeaters*

1.  The Norwalk 2 meter repeater is 146.475 (+1 MHz offset, PL 100, W1NLK).

2.  The Stamford 2 meter repeater is 146.655 (-600 KHz offset , PL 100 or
114.8, W1EE).
3.  The Fairfield 2 meter repeater is 146.625 MHz (-600 KHz offset, PL 100,
WB2CQO).

If you have a Baofeng or some of the other Chinese radios, we'll have the
software and cable to program it for you if you want.  We can also help you
with programming other kinds of radios (especially if you have the
programming cable for the radio).

?A new year and a new meeting place. All future monthly meeting and Saturday meeting will be at the Fairfield Marina. Look for the building at the far end of the parking with the Coast Guard Auxiliary signs on the building. There is no change in the meeting time -Social 7:00 to 7:30 meeting starts at 7:30 pm.Our speaker this month will be Larry Reed, AB1JC. Larry tell us how Ham Radio played a major role in 4 balloon launches including the recent eclipse launching.We had?FOUR balloon launches in 2017!? These were hosted by the Discovery Museum and the University of Bridgeport and supported by GBARC personnel.? Two launches were local in Connecticut and involved some very tricky recovery operations(!).? We drove to Kentucky in August and launched a balloon and 4 radiosondes during the total eclipse.? In September, we had a payload on a LARGE NASA balloon launch from Ft. Sumner, NM that went 600 miles and spent over 12 hours above 100,000 feet.? Pictures and movies!Larry Reed, AB1JC, is a retired Electrical Engineer. He worked 40 years in the business, most recently 28 years for Northrop Grumman (Norden Systems, Norwalk) in Airborne Radar, designing beam-steering computers for Active Electronically-Steered Antennas.? He got his Extra Ticket in 2008 and is now a member of the Greater Bridgeport Amateur
