[CTSARA] Stamford FM Pirate

A strong pirate FM station is on the air from somewhere in Stamford.

It is on 106.5 with reggae and R&B oldies music calling themselves 'Kyrie FM' or something similar.

I work down on Harbor Drive in the Shippan area and it is strong enough to stop the scan function of my

car radio even when I am inside a concrete and steel parking lot.

I have been able to copy it way into Bedford and Pound Ridge going home, so they must be running some power.

They are not on-the-air on overnights. I travel to work between 5 and 6 am and they are silent.

On the way home, however - around 4 to 5 pm - they are always there.

They use a VOX mic - in Caribbean radio style - breaking into songs with their banal chat - and lots of inappropriate sound effects and such.

A great asset to our FM band - (sarcasm at 11.)

Finding them would be a lot easier than a fox hunt, I would think.

Strong signal on the air constantly. Harmonic near our 220 band at exactly 213 MHz. Remember - it's wideband.

Get a rough triangulation and then just look on rooftops for a new vertical or crossed folded dipole.

Frankly, I haven't had the ambition to track this one down, but maybe I will.

Any ideas, anyone, who this might be?

Is this an old station that is known already?

Thanks for listening, Karl Zuk N2KZ Katonah, NY
