At 5pm today I tuned in 106.5 they are from the Stamford Bridgeport area. also they are broadcasting on 106.3 in the Waterbury and New Haven area. one of my coworkers told me that station has been around for a long time. they share it with a religious station.Ithe is a Jamaica Radio station.Bill

I live in Downtown Stamford.  The pirate on 106.5 is strong.

The last time we had a pirate in the area was on 103.1 FM in Greenwich 
in the late 80s.

I hope this one will be found and will be removed.

broadcast on 106.3 FM in Mount Kisco and 1560 AM in New York City.

Strong signal in Shippan this AM (11/2).  Went away abruptly at 10:57am.
Seems like some kind of call-in show w/music(and voice over), plus

Just drove the Hutch/Merritt from the Bronx to Norwalk in the 6 o'clock hour. I started to hear it in the Scarsdale area. It continued to gain strength and peaked in Stamford, mostly on the hilltops, but never really full quieting. Once in New Canaan and Norwalk it faded, and in when I reached Wilton I began to hear what I think is WSUF out of Derby CT.

The pirate is known as 'One Love Radio' with studios in Bridgeport.

Reggae music from Jamaica or smooth R&B when they feel like broadcasting.

They now have a three station network: 106.5 Bridgeport and Stamford and 106.3 Waterbury.

They have several Facebook and Instagram accounts.

There is also a 45 minute YouTube video showing them in action.

Lots of pictures and movies on Instagram, too.

Simply search '106.5 One Love Radio' in a browser and you'll have multiple hits to visit.

Their Facebook page offers a map to find them in Bridgeport and their phone number.

There is also a mention of their 4pm sign on time in one of their posters.

I heard a comment that they have been on the air for ten years, although I haven't been able to verify it.

Brazen and bold, they are.


If you have ever traveled down the Cross Bronx Expressway or toured through Brooklyn,

you would have a good sense about how far pirate radio has progressed in the New York metro area.

It is rare to hear an unused channel without a pirate playing radio to their heart's content.

Many have websites and even sell commercials.

The pirate is known as 'One Love Radio' with studios in Bridgeport.

Reggae music from Jamaica or smooth R&B when they feel like broadcasting.

They now have a three station network: 106.5 Bridgeport and Stamford and 106.3 Waterbury.

They have several Facebook and Instagram accounts.

There is also a 45 minute YouTube video showing them in action.

Lots of pictures and movies on Instagram, too.

Simply search '106.5 One Love Radio' in a browser and you'll have multiple hits to visit.

Their Facebook page offers a map to find them in Bridgeport and their phone number.

There is also a mention of their 4pm sign on time in one of their posters.

I heard a comment that they have been on the air for ten years, although I haven't been able to verify it.

Brazen and bold, they are.


If you have ever traveled down the Cross Bronx Expressway or toured through Brooklyn,

you would have a good sense about how far pirate radio has progressed in the New York metro area.

It is rare to hear an unused channel without a pirate playing radio to their heart's content.

Many have websites and even sell commercials.

With the very popular WLTW 'Lite 106.7' one channel adjacent on 106.7 FM,

SSB, and FM operations in a band that is 2 MHz wide.  When the CW/digital
and SSB segments are open - they are OPEN, with good comms into Europe,
Africa, Asia, and South America depending on time of day.  10 meter signals
often have a habit of skipping over the North or South poles which give us
great comms into places that are otherwise difficult to get from New
England.

I should second Jon's post, and say that if 10M is open it is a joy.  I had
about 30 QSOs last weekend into Europe, South America, North America and
Africa.  I did all of that with just a dipole.  For the investment of about
5$ (15 feet of wire and a SO-239 connector) you can go a long way.  Even if
you live in an apartment or townhouse, you can just stick it off a balcony!

There will be a joint Western CT Area Meeting of the YCCC and the
Candlewood Amateur
Radio Association, CARA, on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Stony Hill Fire
Dept. in Bethel, CT.

Subject: [CTSARA] December Meeting - Building a ZS6BKW Antenna

At our December meeting, we're going to demonstrate building a ZS6BKW
antenna from scratch.

The ZS6BKW is the successor to the G5RV.  It's a multi-band 80-6 meter wire
dipole.  ZS6BKW started with the G5RV and then conducted extensive computer
modeling to increase the gain, flatten the SWR a bit, and smooth out the
lobes.  It's also about 10 feet shorter than an equivalent G5RV.  The
antenna must be fed with 39 feet of 450 ohm ladder line and also must have
at least 70 feet of coax feeding the ladder line.  The coax and ladder line
together form a matching network that brings the SWR below 2:1 (mostly
below 2:1) on the 6, 10, 12, 17, 20 and 40 meters and below 3:1 on 15, 30,
60, and 80 meters.

We're going to start with pre-cut wire and ladder line, but will make the
center insulator (not just a ceramic egg) and the coax-to-ladder line
interface out of PVC piping and compression joints.  We'll put it together
as finished product that can be mounted immediately.  We'll also talk about
the theory of the G5RV/ZS6BKW antennas.  We'll also show how to tune it
when mounting it.

Amateur Radio Parity Act

ARRL once again is calling on its members to urge their US Senators
to support the Amateur Radio Parity Act (H.R. 1301) when it comes up
in the Senate during the "lame duck" session of Congress that
adjourns in mid-December. The House of Representatives approved the
bill in September, but if the Senate does not follow suit, the bill
will die, and the entire process will have to be repeated. ARRL
Hudson Division Director Mike Lisenco, N2YBB, who chairs the ARRL
Board's Legislative Advocacy Committee and has been heavily involved
in efforts to move H.R. 1301 forward, said today, "The clock is
ticking."

"We begin the e-mail campaign once again, as the US Senate returns
to work this week after a month-long hiatus," Lisenco said. "We were
just beginning to build momentum in the Senate following the
unanimous passage of the Parity Act in the House when Congress shut
down for the 4 weeks prior to Election Day."

The task is simple: Go to our Rally Congress page, enter your ZIP
code, fill in your name and address, press enter, and e-mails will
go directly to your Senators. Members may do this, even if they have
already contacted their US Senators for support.

"We have to remind our legislators that we are still here and that
we need the Amateur Radio Parity Act to become law," Lisenco
stressed. "We must to do this now as we have, at most, only 4 weeks
left in the session to get the bill passed this year.  Otherwise, we
will have to begin the entire process in 2017 with a new 115th
Congress."

There are no guarantees, Lisenco said, and we are subject to the
political bickering that goes on daily between the parties, despite
the fact that the bill is truly a bipartisan effort. "In order to
have a chance at overcoming political obstacles that have little or
nothing to do with the legislation, we need our voices to be heard,"
he said. "And we need that input today."

September's victory in the US House was the culmination of many
years of effort on ARRL's part to gain legislation that would enable
radio amateurs living in deed-restricted communities to erect
efficient outdoor antennas that support Amateur Radio communication.
The measure calls on the FCC to amend its Part 97 rules "to prohibit
the application to amateur stations of certain private land-use
restrictions, and for other purposes." While similar bills in past
years gained some traction on Capitol Hill, it was not until the
overwhelming grassroots support from the Amateur Radio community for
H.R. 1301, and ARRL's relentless and strident efforts on Capitol
Hill that this bill made it this far.

As the amended bill provides, "Community associations should fairly
administer private land-use regulations in the interest of their
communities, while nevertheless permitting the installation and
maintenance of effective outdoor Amateur Radio antennas. There exist
antenna designs and installations that can be consistent with the
aesthetics and physical characteristics of land and structures in
community associations while accommodating communications in the
Amateur Radio services."

I am testing out a QRP rig. It operates only on one frequency ,
CW---3560-Khz plus or minus one.

I would appreciate having a short sked with anyone. Please do not let your
concern about your CW  skills interfere; all  I want to do is copy your call
(so I know where you are) and my signal report.

Please call me on the Norwalk 2-mtr repeater, email me or call any other
way. I can make it many evenings and many days.



I am not sure what is the mechanism, but if someone could put this out to
the Stamford club and the Fairfield club I would appreciate it.

The next meeting of the GFARA will take place on Monday, December 5, 2016
at 7:30 PM in the conference room at the Fairfield Police station on Reef
Road, Fairfield.

     This month's meeting will be presented by Jeffrey Cronin KB1MZL.
titled "build your own antenna analyzer for under $75". This is another
project designed around the pairing up of an AD9850 Direct Digital
Synthesizer with an Arduino Nano micro controller. Designed by Beric Dunn,
K6BEZ, this configuration is hard to beat for versatility and low cost.
With just a few more components, a prototyping circuit board and a few
hours of work you can get a printout of the SWR for your HF antenna in any
frequency range you desire. With easy to install software written by Beric
Dunn, you will be up and running in no time. We will also discuss the
growing number of other fun and exciting projects possible with this basic
combination. So please Join us on Monday December 5th at 7:30 P.M. Catch
some of the enthusiasm that is building up around the new low cost
alternatives becoming available in the realms of Amateur Radio equipment.


*Working DX simplified, for newcomers - immediate interest for those of you
already on the air:*

     There is a net on 20 meters, operating daily M-F, and occasionally
Saturday if there are no contests scheduled, which muddy the waters for
this type of operation. The net facilitates US operators wishing to make
contacts in both Europe and Africa. The frequency for the net is 14.247
mHz., and the net control is shared between 4 or 5 operators on successive
days, as follows: KP4BME; AA0BS; W2AF; and VE3QN. Also, GI0AQD, and VP9HE
are around, to assist. Due to propagation peculiarities, usually from this
area it is best to work when the net control is KP4BME, Jose in San Juan.
He has a reliable signal to our area and can better set us up for
scheduling calls.
The net format is routine. The net begins at 2000Z.
*Listen only at first, to find the net control's signal. Do not transmit
until net control calls for US stations wishing to check in to the net..*

You will discover net control initially calling for DX stations only,
outside the US to check in.
KP4BME makes a list and repeats it once for US stations to know what DX
stations are available 'on line'.

AFTER the DX list is compiled. net control calls for US stations wanting to
check in. *This the invitation for you to transmit to the net control, the
last 2 letters of your call, and then wait for his acknowledgement of
receipt of your call letters*.
US stations are sequentially invited to call, one at a time, to the DX
station of their choice, and see if the US station is being copied there.
If so, the signal reports are exchanged, confirmed, and the contact
completed.
Net control monitors the proceeding to advise if a particular station is
not copied, or is missing information on the call letters. Net control will
assist you if you are experiencing difficulty.
It is a fun afternoon, and if you are patient to wait 15-30 minutes to work
a DX station, you have a good chance of making the contact, and WITHOUT
trying to overcome a 'pile up' of QRM such as are otherwise encountered in
many DX contacts from this area. Try it out. Most stations who check in are
able to work at least one DX station.

In the last day or so, VK7XX (Australia, long path), and 3DA0TM, Swaziland,
have checked into the
'DX 247 net' and stood bye to take calls from a number of U. S. stations in
our area. Both stations were received by your editor, with respectable
signal strength, and very workable.
