Of the 6700 points this year, 4910 were from actual QSOs and 1790 were bonus points for things like Media Publicity, copying the ARRL Field Day message, Youth Participation, and GOTA bonus for each GOTA participant who ran up a string of 20 QSOs. Last year, of the 7702 points, 5912 was actual QSOs and 1790 were bonus points (the 1790 both years was pure coincidence - there were a number of differences in the individual components that made up the 1790). In 2014, of the 11334 points, 9764 was actual QSOs and 1570 was bonus points. Looking at our CW QSOs, we had only 434 CW QSOs versus 879 last year versus 1041 in 2014. The difference is mostly attributable to the fact that we had only one CW operator this year (Andy N2CN) versus as many as three ops in previous years. Andy's output per hour this year was better than any of the other operators we've had in the last two years but there was a limit to his operating time. Looking at phone QSOs, we had 1250 on HF (not including GOTA) versus 960 last year versus 2463 in 2014. Our phone tents were active the entire 24 hours with good operators and they did better than last year. The difference with 2014 is that propagation this year was bad - really really bad. Both 10 and 15 were dead - in 2014 we had over 400 QSOs on 10 and 15 versus nothing this year. Even 20, 40, and 75 were relatively dead this year, with the result that a lot of Sunday's operations was spent desperately trying to find stations we we had not already worked. Looking at digital - we had 130 QSOs this year versus 12 last year and 91 in 2014. We reserve digital for times when a tent is empty, and we just didn't have that much empty tent time. Looking at GOTA, we had only 67 QSOs versus 214 last year and 132 in 2014. We put more GOTA participants on the air this year, than last year, but we did not get very many QSOs per person. We are just going to have to figure out a way to get more QSOs from each from GOTA participant. We're thinking of locking them in the GOTA tent until they deliver. No food, no bathroom, no going home until they've given us 20 each. Given conditions, it was a damned good performance. It will be interesting to see what happens with the other clubs in New England. 73 Jon, WB2RYV From swimlaps123 at hotmail.com Fri Jul 1 19:04:54 2016 From: swimlaps123 at hotmail.com (T Aest) Date: Fri, 1 Jul 2016 23:04:54 +0000 Subject: [CTSARA] Field Day Results In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Jon, it's obviously a lot of work for you, Terry, Ernest and the other organizers. Currently the FCC allows 1x1 calls, such as K1A for 2 week special events stations. 1x2 and 2x1 calls (such as K1TA and WB1L) for extra class operators. Why doesn't the U.S. allow us to have calls like Slovenia and issue 1x2x1 calls for Extras? We could have calls like N55A, W21B, K77A, K23K, etc. The calls are ITU compatible. Kind of a cool thought and some of those calls actually sound good on the air. How do I petition the FCC? What do you think?
