Subject: [CT ARES Discussion] INFO: RMS Express 101 - Intro to Data Comms
(Sat. 2/20)
To: CT ARES LISTserve <discussion at connares.org>
*Greetings from CT ARES - Region 2,*The WinLink 2000 (WL2K) RMS Express
program is more e-mail like Data Communications system which allows for
attachments of status reports and other small attachments.
Today, all state Regional Offices can access the WL2K server on Box
Mountain through 100% RF links.
- This means they can exchange messages with each other, even if all
Internet connections are down.
In addition, there are now multiple RF “gateways” around the state that
enable an ARES Team Member, who brings his equipment to a municipal EOC,
to exchange messages between that EOC and the associated Regional Office.
If you are looking for an opportunity to get started with Data
Communications, CT ARES - Region 2 is holding the first of 2 training
sessions on *RMS Express* this coming Saturday morning (Feb. 20) in North
Haven. And, we still have a few seats avallable.
This first session will help you:
- Get the program loaded and set up on your windows notebook computer,
- Become familiar with the program and registerd in the WL2K system.
- Get started semding messages using the “Winlink Telnet” function
directly into the internet via a modem or WIFI.
We go “On-The-Air” with RF in the next session (RMS Express 201) scheduled
for March.
Details and particulars about the class can be found at:
