The picnic is free to members of the club and their families. You do not need to bring food to attend, although it is of course appreciated. I would like to get a count of how many people to expect, so I would appreciate it if you would send me a quick reply indicating: A) That you are coming, and how many guests you're bringing. B) Are you bringing a side dish and if so, what? C) Are you bringing a dessert and if so, what? This is going to be a BYOC event - BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR. Please plan on bringing a chair (a typical lawn folding chair is perfect) for each person who is attending. The location is a very spacious back yard in Stamford. The house is waaaay off Stillwater and there is plenty of on-street parking near the house. There are lots of trees and some open spaces so if someone wants to bring a portable antenna and rig, it would be very easy to set up a station. Please - we need to get a count of who is coming so we can make sure we have enough food. We'll try to feed everyone, but those who RSVP will get first dibs on food. please let me know. 73 Jon From jon.perelstein at gmail.com Thu Aug 13 22:47:55 2015 From: jon.perelstein at gmail.com (Jon Perelstein) Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2015 22:47:55 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] Hams Needed for 2015 Bike4Bikes Charity Event Message-ID: The Bike4Bikes charity bicycle ride is Sunday Oct 4 and we need radio operators. Bike4Bikes (B4B) is put on by Northeast Community Cycles, a 501(c)3 dedicated to promoting bicycling as a safe, fun, healthy form of exercise and an alternative means of transportation for both children and adults. To date, they have donated well over 2500 bicycles to deserving adults and kids. http://www.necommunitycycles.org/ B4B is pretty much the same routes as the Bloomin Metric and will run from about 7am until about 2pm (with some stations shutting down earlier). Although technically not a Sound Cyclists event, most of the people who run the B4B event are the same people who run the Bloomin Metric. Last year B4B had over 300 riders, and they're hoping for 500 this year. Coverage of B4B has been a joint project of the clubs in the area. We are going to need at least 12 operators total, so please do what you can to participate. If you can't participate from 7am to 2pm, please contact me because we can probably accommodate you for whatever hours you can give us. Many of the coverage positions will be mobile in vehicles supplied by the event - so the people providing mobile support will need to be able to move their radio and antenna into/onto the event vehicles. All mobile stations will need at least 25 watts (50 watt radios preferred) with externally mounted 1/4 wave or 1/2 wave antennas (mag mount). People at the rest stops will need at least 25 watt radios with decent antennas - for example, something mounted on your car. We have some spare radios among the participants, so if all you have is an HT but want to participate, we may be able to arrange it. Please contact me ASAP if you would like to participate. 73s Jon, WB2RYV From wb1grb at hotmail.com Mon Aug 17 20:14:58 2015 From: wb1grb at hotmail.com (John Sabini Jr.) Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2015 20:14:58 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] Notice Message-ID: Irving Neitlich Notice Neitlich, Irving Irving Neitlich (Papa) died peacefully at the Atria Stamford on August 15, 2015 at the age of 98. Date: Sun, 23 Aug 2015 22:00:52 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] Picnic wrapup Message-ID: All, This years joint picnic went swimmingly well, and I think that everyone who attended would agree. First and most important, many thanks go to John and Marie for playing host to both of the clubs. Without them we wouldn't have had a location to hold this event, and we're very grateful for their generosity. Thanks to Jon Perelstein for organizing the SARA side of things, as well as making sure we had proper facilities to use during the outing. Rachel Ambrose and Toy Alladin spearheaded the procurement of the main dishes, cutlery, and various other consumables. Toy then went into full grill master mode, expertly cooking the variety of meats. Steve and Roberta Dick took over for Toy while he ran the raffle. Thanks also go to Mike Singewald. Though he was not able to attend the actual event, he was able to provide transportation for the tables, tents, and one of the grills. I would also like to thank all of you who brought such a variety of side dishes, many of which I had personally never seen at any prior picnic. Thanks also go out to those who helped clean and pack up the spread when we were done. Also, thanks go out to Christmas and Easter for their help in cleaning up any dropped food. In other delicious news, would anyone be interested in Thursday night dinner at the Comm Center? Starting around 7ish there will be burgers and dogs for those who want. Please let me know in advance if you want to come. All are welcome. 73, Sam - NV1P From n2cn at siegel.org Mon Aug 24 10:25:47 2015 From: n2cn at siegel.org (Andrew Siegel) Date: Mon, 24 Aug 2015 10:25:47 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] System Administrator Job Opening at Blue Sky Studios Message-ID: We're looking for an infrastructure sysadmin at Blue Sky Studios in Greenwich, CT.
