The start time will be around 7pm and we can expect to be operating until about 2pm (with some people shutting down by 1pm and a few hanging on until about 3pm). SARA and GNARC have always provided support for the Bloomin, and I hope that Fairfield will join us this year. The Bloomin Metric will have over 2500 registered riders and raises funds for a number of charities in southwestern CT including the Bennett Cancer Center/Stamford Hospital Hope In Motion event. The Hope In Motion event was merged into the Bloomin Metric last year in part through our (ham radio) efforts and Hope In Motion was able to net considerably more from bicycle riding than it had been able to net operating on its own. Coverage of the Bloomin is a joint project of the clubs in the area. We are going to need at least 15 operators total, so please do what you can to participate. If you can't participate from 7am to 2pm, please contact me because we can probably accommodate you for whatever hours you can give us. Last year we did some interesting technology stuff with an on-the-fly cross-band repeater and this year we going to try to incorporate DMR into our toolkit. Many of the coverage positions will be mobile in vehicles supplied by the event - so the people providing mobile support will need to be able to move their radio and antenna into/onto the event vehicles. All mobile stations will need at least 25 watts (50 watt radios preferred) with externally mounted 1/4 wave or 1/2 wave antennas (mag mount). People at the rest stops will need at least 25 watt radios with decent antennas - for example, something mounted on your car. We have some spare radios between the two clubs, so if all you have is an HT but want to participate, we may be able to arrange it. Please contact me ASAP if you would like to participate. 73s Jon, WB2RYV From k1eic at att.net Sun Apr 5 00:20:12 2015 From: k1eic at att.net (Betsey Doane) Date: Sun, 5 Apr 2015 00:20:12 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] [GNARC] Fwd: AN ACT EXEMPTING AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS USING HAND-HELD RADIOS FROM THE PROHIBITION ON USING HAND-HELD MOBILE TELEPHONES AND MOBILE ELECTRONIC DEVICES WHILE DRIVING. Date: Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:43:32 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] CALLING ALL HAMS! Message-ID: As all of us have heard last Saturday there was a major earthquake in Nepal, with aftershocks that may not yet be over. What you may not know is that there is currently an HF traffic net running on 14.205, with a secondary frequency of 14.215, and there's a call for North American operators. Part of being a ham is assisting in emergency communications, and this is an opportunity to provide assistance. While very few of us have legal limit stations with beams at home (and if you do please think of checking in) I know that most of us don't. The club currently has an amplifier, but it needs a little bit of work to get it up and running. I believe the issue is with the band switch being stuck. If anyone would be willing to repair it please let me know. Once we get that on the air we'll need people to operate. Again, please let me know if you're available. If someone has the experience and time to be a net control operator please contact Amir Bazak (4X6TT) at +972-50-715-9000. As stated above, if there's someone willing to do it the club will provide the station. 73, Sam Dick From wa1sfh at optonline.net Wed Apr 29 22:43:43 2015 From: wa1sfh at optonline.net (Douglas - WA1SFH) Date: Wed, 29 Apr 2015 22:43:43 -0400 Subject: [CTSARA] Help Wanted: ConnJam 2015 (5/16) Message-ID: <00cc01d082ef$798442d0$6c8cc870$@optonline.net> ANNOUNCEMENT - ANNOUNCEMENT - ANNOUNCEMENT For Immediate Distribution Boy Scouts ConnJam 2015 (May 16) - Just 2 weeks away! - 3 THOUSAND people. coming from towns covered by your Clubs.
