This is an interesting public service opportunity up in Region 2 on June 8.
Doug (WA1SFH) is going to incorporate the use of Winlink in the operation.
I'm going to be doing one of the Winlink stations. He still has need for
both Winlink and regular repeater operators.

CT ARES –
REGION 2
Public Serivce Communications
Trained - Active

To: *All CT ARES Team Members*
*Good Morning!*
We are now ONE week away from Tour de Cure 2014 (Sunday, June 8), a major
fund-raiser for the American Diabetes Association.
*A Really BIG SHOW*
This is the largest charity *Public Service Communications* Event we do in
Region 2.
The Start/Finish Line is at the Durham Fairgrounds (Durham, CT) with: 5
different length routes (100/64/31/15/7 miles), 300 – 400 bicycle riders,
and traverses 3 Zones of Region 2 (Central 1, East 1, East 2) including a
town in Region 4 South *and* the Hadlyme Ferry.
*4 REPEATERS*
The bike routes cover some challenging terrain with regards to VHF & UHF
communications. As a result, we will be using *FOUR REPEATERS* (VHF & UHF)
for this event.
*DATA COMMUNICATIONS*
In addition, for the first time in Region 2, we will be incorporating the
use of Data Communications (“RMS Express”) to transfer cyclist Bib numbers
from the 7 Rest Stops to the Net Control Station (NCS).
- This will be done using “WL2K Packet” over the RMS Gateway in Haddam
(W1SP-5).
Also, since the NCS location will not be co-located with CIC and will be a
small distance away, we will also utilize the “Packet P2P”option in “RMS
Express” for Point to Point communications between the two sites.
*OPPORUNTITIES FOR YOU!*
- 1 SAG Wagon Radio Operator
- 1 Rest Stop RMS Express Station and Operator
- 5 Observers (On The Job training) for RMS Express used in the field.
*Interested? Available? *GREAT!
Please contact: Douglas WA1SFH for *more information* and *to volunteer*.
