[CTSARA] Tree Festival

Hi everyone,

As you might be aware there is an event going on Saturday, May 17th at
Cranbury Park, called the tree festival. Last year some of the members from
both GNARC and SARA helped out with logistics. Specifically, we helped out
with parking and traffic management, which was basically just standing in
one spot directing cars. This may not sound like a big job, but if we
weren't there there would be massive traffic problems. You may think I'm
exaggerating, but this is run by Darien, Wilton, Norwalk, and Westport.
With people coming in from multiple cities, previous years the situation
got bad enough that Grumman Ave, the street running alongside the park, was
reduced to one lane with many of the cars forced to park outside of the
lots. Last year not a single car had to do that. The city was so pleased
with that logistical 180 that each of the volunteers got a letter
expressing their thanks.

At this time we don't have enough people who want to commit to helping out,
and we might be forced to say that we just can't provide the help this
year. I would much rather not do that. Personally, it was a lot of fun
running logistics, but I understand some people don't see it that way.
However, after you spend a few minutes parking cars you can go check out
all of the exhibits. There was a truck there that literally plucked a 10
foot tree right out of the ground! Not to mention the fact that the burgers
were good, and being a volunteer helps get you closer to the front of the
food line. I can honestly say that every single one of the people who
volunteered enjoyed the experience.

Tomorrow is the deadline to tell them yes or no, and if we don't manage to
get at least 5 more people by then we're going to have to say no.

73,
Sam
