The Bloomin Metric is Sunday June 1st and we need radio operators. The
start time will be around 7pm and we can expect to be operating until about
3pm.
SARA always provided a lot of support for the Bloomin, and it's more
important than ever this year because the Bennett Cancer Center/Stamford
Hospital Hope In Motion bicycle ride has been merged into the Bloomin (in
other words, the Bennett riders will be riding the Bloomin routes starting
at Sherwood Island Park). The Bennett ride was SARA's premier public
service event and the Stamford Hospital people have specifically contacted
us to ask that we participate in the coverage of the Bloomin.
Coverage of the Bloomin is a joint project between SARA and GNARC. We are
going to need at least 15 operators total between the two clubs, so please
do what you can to participate. In past years, we've impressed the
Stamford Hospital people with our turnout and we need to impress them again
because we're going to be talking to them about getting space for our
repeater in the their new high rise building.
Many of the coverage positions will be mobile in vehicles supplied by the
event - so the people providing mobile support will need to be able to move
their radio and antenna into/onto the event vehicles. All mobile stations
will need at least 25 watts (50 watt radios preferred) with externally
mounted 1/4 wave or 1/2 wave antennas (mag mount).
People at the rest stops will need at least 25 watt radios with decent
antennas - for example, something mounted on your car.
We have some spare radios between the two clubs, so if all you have is an
HT but want to participate, we may be able to arrange it.
Please contact me ASAP if you would like to participate.

P.S. Fred, I have told them very specifically that I will not put any
radio operators in any vehicle being driven by Clyde.
