Depending on how bad the drive is, you might be able to recover your
data. Can you describe a bit more what bad means? Is it making strange
noises, is it not recognized by the computer, is Windows just telling
you it needs to be formatted, is it on fire? :)

In general, I would recommend you keep it offline until someone tries
to recover from it. If the filesystem is garbled, and you keep it
online, it might continue degrading making it harder to recover later.
