GBARC, in cooperation with the Bridgeport and Stratford EOCs, will be doing
hands-on NBEMS training Saturday morning March 9 from 9am to noon at the
Bridgeport EOC. They are inviting members of the Stamford and Norwalk
clubs to attend.

The training will start with about 45 minutes of presentation describing
NBEMS and the remainder will be hands-on on-the-air training using radios
in the EOC so that those attending will get to compose and send messages
back and forth.

NBEMS is the Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System, which is a suite of
programs based around FLDIGI that provide checksum verification, ARQ
(automatic repeat request), and message formatting for digital software
modes. It produces standard format messages for all of the major ICS
forms, as well as the ARRL Radiogram, various Red Cross message formats,
the Hospital Incident Command System (special ICS forms for use by
hospitals), the Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS), and others, plus
generic message formats. NBEMS works with the same software and soundcard
interface on HF and VHF and some of the newer modes meet or exceed the
throughput of HF packet while providing both Forward Error Correction and
ARQ.

I would like to encourage our members to attend to learn about this very
useful tool for digital communications in EMCOMM and public service
operations. I will be attending.

The Bridgeport EOC is located at 581 North Washington Avenue in Bridgeport.
