While we work up the score numbers, there are a couple of very satisfying
FD statistics that I would like to tell you about
1. We had a total of 77 people visit the site (versus 81 for last year).
Down slightly from last year, but last year's number included 8 or 9
retired club members who no longer live in the area.
2. We did see a couple of club members who haven't been very active in the
club over the past few years, but who seem to be getting involved again
such as Jeanine Cariri and Jim Markus. Welcome back.
3. We know we put 26 different people on the air in 3A this year, which is
even more than last year. The number may be higher because there are 14
log entries that need to be resolved. As far as we know, every single
person who wanted to get on the air in 3A got on the air in 3A.
One of our challenges for next year is going to be getting points from
GOTA. We're a victim of our own success - many of the people who gave us
the good GOTA numbers in previous years are now licensed amateurs who will
not qualify for GOTA next year. Of course, we've been saying this for the
last couple of years and somehow every year we wind up with newcomers to
replace the hams that got their start with us.
4. We had visitors from three other clubs who came to see if we were
really serious about welcoming people, about making sure that participants
enjoy themselves, and making sure that people who wanted to get on the air
got on the air. They all went away favorably impressed, and we think we'll
see them again next year.
5. We got coverage before Field Day in the Stamford Advocate and on WSHU.
We had a front-page article about FD in today's Stamford Advocate - and
not just front page, but "above the fold" (which is big stuff in the
newspaper industry).
6. We overachieved on visitors from Govt Center and served agencies. Our
visitors included the Mayor's Special Assistant for Emergency Preparedness,
the Emergency Management Director, someone from the City's Technology Dept,
an officer of the Stamford Fire Dept, as well as representatives from
Stamford CERT, Red Cross, Salvation Army, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the
U.S. Power Squadron, and the Old Greenwich Fire Department. Oh -- and
since the City's Emergency Management Director is a Stamford Police
Captain, that means we had a visit from an officer of the Stamford PD in
addition to the Stamford Fire Dept.
