And once again it is time to inundate everyone with messages about Field
Day - which is just under two weeks away (June 22 and June 23).
Our continuing message is quite simple: it doesn't matter whether or not
you've been on the air in the last few years, it doesn't matter whether or
not you're an experienced contest operator -- or even whether or not you
want to do contest operations at all, it doesn't matter if you are a
Technician class or a General class or .... (or even not licensed). Just
please come visit. Come and socialize. Come and see what we're doing.
Come and listen. This is first and foremost a club event and we would
like to have as many people as possible join us.
If you want to operate during the contest, we'll get you on the air
(regardless of experience and license class). If you'd like to try the
contest but feel uncomfortable, we have some experienced contest operators
who will sit with you and help you. If you can't make it Saturday during
the day, there's always Saturday night or Sunday. If you want to try some
different things that you're not used to (e.g., HF or digital or satellite
or VHF SSB), we'll get you an opportunity to try them. Want to learn how
to solder -- and especially how to deal with surface mount technology?
Georgi is going to reprise his soldering demo. Want to see what Winlink
is all about? We'll have a Winlink demo.
We do need help putting up (and taking down) antennas -- come on Friday and
help Terry (our antenna expert) put up more and higher antennas faster than
you thought possible (and remember - he likes to help club members with
their antenna problems). We need people for setup - come and see how to
get four or five stations in a small area without them interfering with
each other. Come see how to set up generators and portable operations in
the wild (well, as wild as the Stamford Observatory and Nature Center
grounds get). We need people to help with food - got a favorite recipe??
As much as we like to run up points, this is a club event and making sure
that ALL our members get to enjoy themselves is our highest priority.
Please make plans to come.
