There is a difference between practicing communications and communication
drills.
The former is a good opportunity for ham operators (new and old, cert and
non) to become familiar and comfortable with their radio as well as
operating procedures and etiquette. It also allows operators to become
familiar with nets, both controlled and round robin.
The later (drills) would be done under more adverse operating conditons,
including simplex operation when warranted.
Just my $0.02.
