[CTSARA] SARA: Adam and The Late Visitor

I didn't know about this until a few minutes ago, but it is a perfect
example of how our club and members treat Field Day as an opportunity to
show ham radio to the public -- and why new hams/hams-to-be travel all the
way from ARES Region 2 to spend Field Day with us.

Apparently, a father and his 10 year old son showed up at our site a few
minutes after Field Day ended. Despite the fact that he already had his
radio half packed up, Adam unpacked it, set it up again, tuned around the
bands for a while for the kid to listen, and then put the kid on the air
for a regular QSO (no, he didn't log it as a Field Day QSO). By all
accounts, the kid thoroughly enjoyed himself and I'm told that his eyes
were as wide as the proverbial saucers when the ham on the other side of
the QSO started talking with him. That kid will be back and he will wind
up being a ham.

You folks were just superb with all our visitors and in a sense it's unfair
to single out that story, but to have an exhausted Adam unpack his radio
for a 10 year old is truly above and beyond, and a wonderful reflection on
SARA.

Thank you all, and thank you Adam.

73s
Jon
