Hi SARA List Members.
First of all, thank you everyone who worked with me, logged for me, etc. during Field Day. It was great being there and participating in this annual tradition.
If you attended the June meeting of SARA, you got a chance to listen to a five minute MP3 of last year's Field Day. This was put together by a ham in Southern Va. who listened on 40 meters through his ICF2010 receiver with the stock antenna.
This year, he monitored our signal and is in the process of producing the 2012 version of what we sounded like. When I get it, I will forward it to the club.
As a result, we were the only Field Day site with a remote receiver/logger in Va. We can't use that for points but it was great that the unidentified ham did that for us.
I called him several times on my cell phone to give him updates as to what was going on 40 during the afternoon. I also spoke with him in the evening and on Sunday. He recorded the activity between 2 and 2:45 PM.
During the Sunday night net, much was discussed regarding how we did i.e., our final totals. While that's important, remember the other purposes behind Field Day such as publicity for the hobby, public service, etc.
I say that as a long time VHF/UHF contester.
Congratulations to all of us who worked on different aspects of the weekend whether being on the air or behind the scenes. Other than a couple of minor glitches which are expected to take place, we can be proud of what we accomplished.
Special thanks to Jon, WB2RYV for taking time to appear on my program on Saturday June 16th on WPKN Bridgeport to talk about amateur radio, SARA, Field Day and in general promote the hobby.
Larry
