Hi CTSARA List,
In addition to being a ham and other interests, I host a show on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 4 PM to 7:00 on WPKN a noncommercial listener supported station based in Bridgeport, CT. WPKN broadcasts with 10,000 watts at 89.5 FM and streams its diversified programs at www.wpkn.org.
This Saturday the 16th at 6 PM, I will be talking with Jon, WB2RYV about ham radio, SARA and of course field day.
The purpose of this conversation is to make more people aware of our hobby, the club and next weekend's event. I hope this will result in members of the public coming out to the observatory and ultimately joining our fraternity.
If you live in the Stamford, Greenwich, Darien area, you might find it hard to get a decent signal from WPKN on a regular over the air radio. This is because WSOU, a college station based in New Jersey also broadcasts on 89.5 FM.
The best way to hear WPKN is to listen to the station's web stream. Here is how to do it.
1. Go to the website www.wpkn.org.
2. Scroll down to where it says Listen Now. This is not a clickable link.
3. Just below Listen Now, you'll find a link titled img/play_new. Click on that. Do not bring up the link below that which refers to the shows that have been archived. You want to listen to what's currently on the air.
4. After clicking the link for img/play_new, continue down till it says Listen with Flash (recommended). You could if you want to use Listen with an Application iTunes, Winamp, etc.) If you use that way to hear the stream, you can decide which player will work for you. If you go with Flash as your desired player, it will come up right away after you click on it.
Again the interview about ham radio, SARA and field day with Jon, WB2RYV will take place this Saturday at 6 PM on WPKN-FM Bridgeport and will be streamed on the website www.wpkn.org.
While what you just read may seem complicated i.e. accessing the WPKN stream, in reality it really isn't.
Let me know what you think of the interview.
If you decide to listen earlier, (my program begins at 4 PM,) you will hear my tribute to two broadcasters who passed away recently. Paulette Bolin and Hal Jackson. I'll also have some guests on talking about music.
