Good Evening-

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer and staying active in ham
radio! As the summer starts to end, we look forward to our club picnic on
Sunday 8/19/2012 and to our first meeting following the summer hiatus
(Thursday 9/6/2012).

There are a few public service events coming up this fall that you might be
interested in. As is always the case with these events, experience is not
required and the time commitment can be worked out with the sponsoring club
if you are unable to stay the entire time. In addition, transportation to
the event can often be arranged. Public service events is a great way to
use equipment outside of normal operating conditions, but in a more
controlled environment.

If you have any questions about the picnic, our next meeting (ALL ARE
WELCOME) or the below events, please feel free to contact me.

73s!

GOLDEN APPLE BIKE TOUR
Date: Sunday, 9/2/2012
Time Commitment: 6am to 2pm
Location: Around Golden's Bridge, NY
Sponsoring Club: WECA
Supporting: Westchester Cycle Club
More information/signup: http://www.weca.org/public.html
Email: PublicService (at) weca.org
Summary: The Golden Apple Bike Tour, now in its 25th year, is a large ride
similar to the Bloomin Metric in Norwalk. WECA continues to support SARA
with the user of their repeater for our coverage of the Bennett ride, as
well as member participation in SARA events. In 2011 three SARA operators
assisted with the event. Please sign up and support our neighboring club.

CYCLE FOR LIFE
Date: Sunday, 10/7/2012
Time Commitment: 6a to 2pm
Location: Norwalk, CT
Sponsoring Clubs; GNARC & SARA
Supporting: Cystic Fibrosis
Email: W3EIC (at) thesolomonhouse.com or jon.perelstein(at) gmail.com
Summary: This is the second year SARA & GNARC are supporting this ride.
Last year was such as a success, our support was noted in both local and
national Cystic Fibrosis publications. The ride starts at Luciano Park and
ends at Westport Train station. Similar to our Bennett support, repeater
coverage of the course is challenging, and requires the use of two
repeaters. We had a good turnout last year; let's try to have a bigger
turnout this year.

HAND FOR LIFE
Date: Saturday, 8/25/12
Time Commitment: 30 minutes (anytime between 8a and 6p)
Location: Chelsea Piers, Stamford, CT (the "old Clairol building")
Supporting: City of Stamford and your community
More Information: http://www.handsforlife.org/
Sign up: https://ems.resrunner.com/hands
Summary: Hands for Life is a very short hands only CPR training course.
While the there is a goal to set a record for the number of people trained
in a single day, the main goal is to provide CPR training to the community.
While this does not directly relate to ham radio, this is good knowledge
to have. If there is enough club interest, we could have a SARA team. My
YXL and I have both already signed up.
