As most of you know, SARA and GNARC have been providing communications
support for the Lightfoot Running Club summer race series.

At today's Norwalk Half Marathon one of the runner's collapsed on the course
in a somewhat remote location where cell phone service is not good. Two of
our hams were there within minutes and made the calls that got her an
ambulance, and then stayed with her until the ambulance arrived. Don
Capone, the race director, has since spoken with her and she is okay -- she
hadn't properly hydrated before and during the race.

The following SARA members participated in the coverage of the various
races:

Jon W3EIC
Chris KB1QXR
Bill WG1HM
Tony KB1SUN (who allowed something as trivial as a hurricane to keep him
from one of the races :)
Fred K1FC

and I think I'm missing someone, so if you were at one of the races and I
didn't include you, please shout out.

Thanks guys. It was just a small series of races -- but we sure helped
someone today and in general brought more (good) attention to ham radio in
southwest Fairfield County. And Don sends his very heartfelt thanks for the
work done.

Jon, WB2RYV
