I know about the threats involving WNLK/WSTC because I was at a Stamford
emergency communications planning meeting yesterday and the subject of
whether or not WSTC will go from being useless to useful in future
emergencies came up.  One of the people in the meeting (a police captain)
mentioned the threats.

To be fair -- there are almost always threats when a broadcast radio
station changes formats -- even from one music format to another (you can
never trust those classical music types).  However, the threats tend to be
more vitriolic and specific when it involves (a) a move away from
right-wing political formats, (b) a move away from religious formats, or
(c) a move away from gansta hip-hop and/or a perceived change in focus from
one faction of gangsta hip-hop to another.  I have this information from a
client that happens to be the largest radio network/syndicator in the
country, and they tell me that law enforcement tends to not laugh off
threats in those three areas.
