[CTSARA] Power Supply gauge and voltage loss with the home rig

After seeing George's presentation and hearing Jon's question about the
gauge wire we use from the power supply to a rig at home, I examined my own
setup.
I had noticed that I was getting the same signal noise ratio from my FT920
as I was through my Elecraft K1 on a few skimmers on reversebeacon.net. Not
saying this is the best way of measuring my actual power output but it got
me wondering if my FT-920 was actually getting the power it needed.
I run a Yaesu FT-920 and what seems to be the stock power supply cable. It
was over 6' long. It is also only 14awg.
I measured the voltage at the back of my rig with the key down. Turns out
my voltage was dropping down to 11.7v. I shortened the power supply cable
to a reasonable length for my desk, about 17". Now the voltage stays above
13v.
Thanks a lot for a lot of great information George and a really good
question Jon.
