For the June 3 - June 4 Red Cross exercise, Red Cross also needs volunteers
to play simulated disaster survivors who have been moved into shelters.
Selected volunteers will even be able to bring their pets with them.
The volunteers for this piece of the exercise do not have to be hams, nor do
they need any prior experience or training. In fact, the whole goal is to
use "civilians" who are not trained and therefore can be expected to react
as real civilians would in a real emergency.
The primary need is for people who can stay overnight, but they can also use
people on just Friday or just Saturday.
If you know anybody who might like to have a little fun and do some good,
please have them contact Steve Woods as per the info below.

Hey Everyone. In addition to needing Red Cross volunteers to help with
our disaster exercise in June, we also need mock shelter residents to come
to the shelter on Friday night. This is a great opportunity to help the Red
Cross and see how a “real” shelter works. Please help us by pass this email
on to your friends, families, co-workers, groups and organizations. The
more participants we have, the better the event will be. Thank you. STEVE

*Help the Red Cross – Volunteer at our Disaster Shelter Exercise – Friday
June 3, 2011*
The Connecticut Red Cross will be conducting a full scale Shelter Exercise
on Friday evening June 3, 2011 at the Geraldine Johnson School in
Bridgeport. The purpose of the exercise will be to practice running a full
service shelter in conjunction with a co-located pet shelter operated by the
City of Bridgeport and the State Animal Response Team.
The Red Cross is seeking individual and groups that would like to volunteer
as mock disaster shelter residents for the exercise. Specifically, we are
looking for individuals of all ages and families with children. There will
also be a co-located Pet Shelter as part of the exercise, so domesticated
pets are also welcome to participate. You do not need to be a Red Cross
volunteer to participate as a shelter resident but pre-registration is
required.
This is an overnight exercise for those who wish to stay. The Shelter will
open at 6pm. Dinner will be served around 7pm and a free Disaster
Preparedness seminar will be offered around 8pm. Snacks and drinks will be
provided overnight and breakfast will be served Saturday morning.
Pre-registration is required of all participants and volunteers. Space is
limited to first 100. For more information or to sign-up as a participant,
please contact Steve Woods at

.
*>> Please feel free to share this e-mail with other friends, co-workers or
groups that might be interested. It is a great opportunity for scout troops
to earn credit toward their Emergency Preparedness badges*.
