Frank (KB1IFX) sent me this information from Red Cross regarding ham radio
participation in the disaster recovery efforts in Alabama after the recent
tornadoes

- 4 ECRV's active in AL  [for those of you who don't know, the Red Cross
Emergency Communications Response Vehicles are mobile disaster response
communications centers that use ham radio to communicate with Red Cross and
state/federal disaster officials]
- Local Amateur Radio operators are heavily involved in providing
communications where cell system and terrestrial telephone service is out of
operation
