Well folks, GNARC and SARA did it again. Working together, we put together
some excellent coverage for the Bike MS charity bicycle event. Our folks
dealt with dire threats of thunderstorm (none materialized), difficult
communications (e.g., Bethel), repeaters on low power (Bridgeport), lost
riders, injured riders (including one who wound up being transported to Yale
New Haven), a route that an Army Pathfinder might have found difficult to
follow, and equipment failure (Toy's mobile rig, my cell phone). The team
handled it all and handled it all with great aplomb.
Those of us at the Sherwood Island start/finish also had to deal with free
samples from the Fairway market in Stamford, free samples from a "Cupcake
Wars" contender of Southington, and a full barbecue lunch from Bobby Q's BBQ
of Westport. But on the other hand, we there was the steel drum band...
Toy and I would like to thank the following people who participated:
AT, KK1R
Bruce, KC2WGX
Fred, K1FC
Joel, AB1MU
Marty, KA1WBN
Phil, N3KDJ
Tina, KB1UOB
Vlad, W1ZP
One situation occurred near the end of the event that was a total mystery to
the event organizers. A large group of mostly twenty-something female
riders just absolutely refused to leave the 4th rest stop. The event
organizers went crazy trying to figure out why they were refusing to leave.
The reason was no mystery to us -- that's the rest stop at which Fred was
located.
Thank you all.
