I don't know if any of you noticed this, but the July 2011 issue of QST has
the results of the 2010 Simulated Emergency Test. CT Region 1 West (us) had
two different nets on the air, a Red Cross net that was reported under
Frank's call (KB1IFX) as Region 1 West, and the SARA net that was reported
under my call (my old call, KB1QBZ) as Region 1 West B. Jon (W3EIC) was
net control for the SARA net and I was sometimes net control for the Red
Cross net (as well as sometimes mentoring Red Cross ham operators as net
control).

The Red Cross net scored 165 points and the SARA net scored 146 points.
Points are based on number of different people checking in and number of
communications. The Red Cross net had a number of people mobile and also
people simulating operation of a shelter, including one in Stamford.

Together, the 311 points scored by Region 1 West was third highest in CT and
in the top 20 in the country (if my count is correct). Not too shabby for
little Stamford/Darien, which is all of about 60 square miles. Thanks to
Jon for handling the SARA net and congrats Frank.

P.S. The SET was where Jon was using our Sterling Farms 2 meter repeater
amplifier on his transmitter and noticed the behavior that led us to finally
figure out what the problem was with the amplifier (a bad pot in the power
circuit). That alone was well worth all the effort that everyone put into
the SET.
