You can't be that in need of people. As a non-member who is an employee of Stamford Fire and Rescue with extensive experience in public safety, 911 communications and mass casualty incidents my offer for assistance was met with what read in essence a thanks but no thanks. 
I choose to try to help the amateur aspect as I feel that it can play an important role in emergency management.
