My name is Mike Mardis, N1SPZ. I am a Firefighter with the City of Stamford. I am writing to make a suggestion with regards to preparing yourself for natural disasters.
In light of yesterday's earthquake and the impending storm it is imperative that you inform yourself with accepted and proven procedures.
Many of you may be familiar with a study released in the recent months titled "The Triangle of Life". For those of you who are not. It was to advise you on how to position yourself within a structure during potential collapse incidents.
While this was written by a credible search and rescue responder and based on real life experience, it was flawed. The data was accumulated mostly from countries who do not have our building codes and enforcement standards. That being said, there is valuable information within this report.
Please take the time to review the recommended procedures from FEMA, The American Red Cross and the various Fire trade web sites.
If you would like any suggestions for the fire web sites, I can be reached at mikejmardis at aol.com.
Be prepared and be safe.
Mike Mardis
