I have the vx8r this might help
You need to hold the three key down together while turning the radio on

Microprocessor resetting
To clear all memories and other settings to factory defaults
1 turn the radio off.
2 press and hold in the band, hm/rv, and tx po keys while turning the radio
on.
3 press the fw key briefly to reset all settings to their factory defaults
(press any other key to cancel the rest procedure).

Hi All,
 I've just acquired a Yaesu VX-7R Quad Band handheld. The instruction manual
seems
to be weird and just plain wrong about a number of things. I called the
factory and
they told me a reset procedure that was very different from what was in the
manual.
Anybody know about this, and can anybody help me please ?
