Tropical Storm Earl getting stronger; Hurricane Danielle may cause rip currents
5 a.m. update
Tropical Storm Earl should become a hurricane today, and forecasters expect the storm slow and to pass near or over the northern Leeward Islands tonight.
As of 5 a.m., Tropical Storm Earl was about 420 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands and moving west at about 18 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds remain at 65 miles per hour.

A hurricane warning has been issued for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustasius.
A hurricane watch remains in effect for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the islands of Culebra and Vieques.
Tropical storm conditions are expected in the watch area later today, and hurricane conditions are expected Monday. Forecast models project that Earl will turn to the northwest Sunday night through Monday and then accelerate toward the north.
Hurricane Danielle's maximum sustained winds have decreased to about 90 mph. Danielle is centered about 440 miles east of Bermuda. The hurricane is weakening and forecasters expect it to lose tropical characteristics by Monday night
