http://www.xpalpower.com/us/products/xp18000/ manual is linked from that
page
I think one of these might be good for charging a HT, cell phone, or other
assorted gear, but I wouldn't run a mobile off it.
It has 3 outputs- a USB port for 5v, and what look like barrel connectors
for 9-12v and 16-20v. A 'tip' is used to adapt to whatever you are
charging- not sure if the tip signals the device to switch voltage or what.
According to the manual, these are really putting out 5v, 10.5v and 19v. So
we'd need a 19v-13.8v conversion.
However the max this will put out is 20v @ 3500mA. That's (theoretically)
about 70 watts. At 19v that's 65 watts. Nowhere is there a handy 13.8v
output, the 10.5 is too low and the 19v is too high for most amateur use.
With some voltage conversion it might work for a low power (5-25w) mobile,
or as you say for running a HT for many hours.
Which is really too bad- I could see a lithium power pack with the same
footprint of an average mobile, strapped to the bottom of one being a
popular product (especially for go-kits due to the greatly reduced weight
compared to lead acid batteries)... sadly this product isn't it (in my
opinion).

Jonathan,
Are you thinking of this thing to power radios or to power
cellphones/laptops, etc.?
Looking at the specs, there are two things that I'm unclear on, both related
to the rated output ("Rated Output: DC 5-20V, Max 3500 mA").
1. What kind of power can one run from a ham radio using this battery? For
example, 3500mA means about 25 watts output from the typical ham radio
(13.8v x 3.5amps = 48.3 watts, and the typical ham radio is about 50%
efficient, meaning that 48.3 watts in will result in about 25 watts out).
For example, the FT-7800 (which is reasonably efficient radio) needs 8.5
amps at 13.8 volts to drive 50 watts output. Can this thing really do
3500mA out.
2. How well does it regulate voltage at different output levels? If I'm
driving the battery at 3500mA out, will it give me 13.8v, or 12.8v or 5v or
what? I don't see anything in the information they're giving that would
indicate voltage regulation ability.
Jon
