For those of you who were offering to help out:
The work on Saturday Nov 14 is going to be limited to a few people who
already have experience at handling packet traffic. We won't be needing
anybody else for Saturday. If anybody would like to join me and Frank, you
are of course welcome. We'll probably be operating from our homes, but
that's not been totally settled yet.
HOWEVER ...
we could use a few people Sunday afternoon from about 1:30 to 2:00pm to
go out to a few key sites and test our VHF (2 meters) simplex communications
between different spots in Stamford and the EOC in the Stamford Govt Center.
The effort would involve going to a designated location in Stamford and
contacting the EOC. We're looking for people who have a good car-mounted
VHF vertical antenna and a 25 watt or higher mobil radio that they can
operate from their car. You'll just have to make contact so that we can see
what sort of signal we have with each location.
The sites we are targeting are:
Westhill High School: 125 Roxbury Rd (across from W. Hill Rd) [a]
Long Ridge School: 478 Erskine Rd (just north of Jonathan Dr) [a]
Long Ridge Fire House: 684 Long Ridge Rd (at Erskine Rd) [a]
Stamford Museum and Nature Center on High Ridge Rd (at Scofieldtown Rd) [b]
Temple Sinai: 458 Lakeside Drive (at Interlaken Rd) [b]
Bi-Cultural Day School: 2186 High Ridge Rd (between Skymeadow Dr and Pinner
Lane) [b]
Davenport Ridge School: 1300 Newfield Ave (north of Weed Hill Ave.) [c]
Springdale School: 1127 Hope Street (just south of Weed Hill Ave) [c]
Springdale RR Station: off Hope Street just south of Largo Dr and directly
across from Clearview Ave [c]
The CL&P repair depot on Glenbrook Rd at Research Drive [d]
Courtland Park: corner of East Main (Rt. 1) and Courtland Ave. [d]
Terry Connors Rink: in Cove Island Park at Cove Rd and Weed Ave. (just Weed,
not Weed Hill). [d]
*****
Looking at the list above, I think that one person could handle [a] within
about 1/2 hour, one person could handle [b] within about 1/2 hour, one
person could handle [c] within about 1/2 hour, and one person could handle
[d] within 1/2 hour.
How about it folks?
Jon, KB1QBZ
