Hi John could you put this up on our web site where you think most members would read
Red Cross Cold Weather Alert.

Good Afternoon DAT Team, (Disaster Action Team) American Red Cross Darien and Stamford
We wanted to alert you that we may be doing a call down in the case, of our chapter opening warming shelters this weekend due to the expected freezing weather conditions. Please stay tuned as more information becomes available. We are looking for potentional volunteers later in the week into the weekend. Below are some early reports.
-Faith Webster
We just got off the phone with the Governor and all the towns in the State. The Governor reminded the towns to work with the local Red Cross Chapters and DEMHS Regional Coordinators if shelters are needed during the next few days. During the call, the Governor mentioned that we have an agreement with the National Guard to open the 10 National Guard armories in the State in case regional shelters are needed. The Governor asked towns to open local shelters first and then go to the armories if capacities are close to full.
We are having a discussion with DEMHS this morning to discuss that idea, as it may be more efficient to open regional shelters upfront and consolidate our resources for better and continuous service. In the mean time, towns can always use fire departments and other “open” buildings as an initial warming location, and let us know if folks are showing up and shelters are needed. The ideal shelter would be a model 2, Red Cross Partner Shelter, a shelter that is staffed by a trained partner or by partner and ARC personnel under ARC administra tion (i.e. CERT open a shelter and shelter manager reports to ARC).
