Sorry I was unable to contribute or attend this year, as last minuet changes prevented so. However, Field Day is a club event that is meant for everyone. The weekends sucess fun or failure should not be dependant on any one individual. I am sorry to hear by the reference of the club health, and walking a thin line. But perhaps this is indeed a good wake up call. Were you minus one HF station? Or was just the lack of participation from amoung those in attendance a problem? Really, if all who attended had a good time, enjoyed company, how are you measuring the events sucess?
I was not at Field Day this year, but the last 2 years I was. I feel that myself, Jim and Carl contributed in extra ways and it was a great learning and fun experience. This year John, you will be sending invitations from the LIST OF ATTENDEES, o.k. so I'll write this instead. I think examining the club is a good idea. I think the club needs structure, a more formal approach. Just looking at the website conclusions can be drawn. For Example... The clubs business is handles at the board meetings. Why? Why shouldnt all things be in the open for all payed members to review and discuss. I have been told as if only to passify me and several others, BIG CHANGES COMMING WITH THE REPEATER, BUT IT'S HIGHLY SECRET CAN'T TALK ABOUT IT. This comes from someone who is not on the board. In years previous I've heard comments like, WE CAN'T GET THE REPEATER WORKING TOO GOOD OR WE'LL HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE NORWALK DID. You know It is my impression that those who hold positions on the board don't really want to. Are you just carrying on a tradition handed to you from previous sucessful administrators, out of a sense of duty? If your heart is not in it and you don't have the ambition, time or will to do the necessary measures for sucess than get out of the way. You are then part of the reasons for now walking the thin line.
suggestions: GET THE REPEATERS WORKING THE WAY THEY SHOULD it's not rocket science
WHEN PAID MEMBERS MAKE SUGGESTIONS>>>>LISTEN
NO BOARD MEMBER IS THE JUDGE OR JUREE
SUNDAY NIGHT NET.... ACTUALLY TALK NOT JUST HURRY TO PLAY THE NEWS REEL TO END IT
So while you try to figure it out remember that most of the new hams into the club are active on all bands seven day's a week, not just once a week, what does the club offer to it's members. If my letter is offensive, and will be not taken with any credibility that's fine. If I am to be shunned from VHF world, fine. But maybe and hopefully some much needed changes will come about that will want to make people be a part of something. If my letter is secretly discussed at the board meeting and found humorous, well that's why SARA is where it is.
GOOD LUCK!
