Hi Dale:

Welcome to county hunting! I suggest you either drop the subject right
now or prepare to suffer withdrawal if you have other priorities in your
life.

USA-CA is the only award I ever seriously worked for; and I found lots of
friends and fun on the way to first time around.

I only work CW, so perhaps we won't meet if you prefer SSB mode. The CW
net is on 14056.5 KHZ; and you can hear someone most of the time if you
listen a while. The CW ops also QSY to 7039.0, 21056.5 and 28056.5 when
mobile or operating in the county hunter contest.

You don't have to join anything; just listen to the net and do what the
other ops are doing. On SSB there is a little more strict procedure; on
CW it is very informal and the procedure is obvious after listening to a
mobile for a few minutes.

You would probably enjoy looking at www.marac.org wet site; it contains
info on all aspects of county hunting, provides a forum for exchanging
info, county hunter database, and other "stuff." Remember, you don't
have to join anything to chase mobiles and hunt counties.

As far as rate Carter, MO, it won't matter after you operate a few times.
But some will always be looking for the county. And you don't need to
be in a rate county or operate mobile to get counties. The nets are fun
and makes hunting counties very pleasant. Information on planned mobile
trips and needs is available on the MARAC or www.countyhunter.com
websites.

CQ sells the book for keeping track of counties worked and for sending
for the basic or all the awards.

Good luck whichever mode you prefer... it sure does beat hunting states?
On a good weekend, you can get most states between the fixed and mobile
stations on the nets.
