I have been asked by several individuals to share with the list the
responses I received regarding my inquiry of the FT-100D in mobile
operation. The responses are listed below.

I have used the FT-100D for about 2 years and like it. Just make sure
you get the "D" because that has the larger speaker and built in filters
that the 100 did not have. I used the FT-900 before and the 100D is
much
improved. It is very rare that I cannot hear anyone that can hear me
and
hardly ever have to give a "no copy" on relays. Only problem I have is
with power - I have to keep the engine running or get FM-ing. I hook
directly to the battery, and a larger power line would probably fix
that. I am still using the one that came with the rig. I also got the
separate auto-tuner, but have found I don't need it and have taken it
out
of the car. The rig works great without it with low SWR on both SSB and
CW
with the same antenna (Outbacker Perth on triple mag mount and heavy
duty
spring in middle of car roof). I also have no problem with CW in QSK
mode
(digital filtering is variable, but I use the same levels for both SSB
and
CW).

Bought a new FT-100D in January and have had very good success with it.
Collected 400+ counties (and 33 countries) in that time before sending
it
back to Yaesu for the modifications (opened the case and found they had
not been done). Great little radio. Excellent noise blanker. Very
sensitive receiver. Used it with a 20 Meter HamStick and got great
reports.
I have an FT-747 in my car temporarily. There is NO comparison. The
FT-100 receives better, I got better audio reports, the noise blanker is
the pits. I am in my car 16+ hours a day on weekends and I really miss
my FT-100.
Sorry, but, at thsi time, I am only operating SSB, so I'll leave the CW
question to someone else.

Hi Garie, Don't have any experience with the FT100. I am a very active
county hunter and runner. The IC-706 is the better rig. Been to several
county conventions and the 706 is King. Take a look at www.k2bj.com
click
on
mobile of the month then click on archieve. Click on N4RS and take a
look
at
my setup. It is world class. I've done more since those pictures,
getting
ready for a trip to Calif. I have installed another rig for APRS / GPS
so
folks can follow me and send emails, all sorts of neat stuff. I am 100%
cw.
Put your question to the county forums and you will get more responses
for
the 706.

Many positive comments and I wish to thank all that took the time to
respond. It was much appreciated.
