Congratulations Tim and well done to all involved in the event. Like most
events you had the "mishaps" which are part and parcel of such an event
but at least you have stories to tell about what turned out to be an
enjoyable event. Well done again in getting CRC on the air once again.
Sorry I was unable to be with you.

Subject: [Corkradioclub] Successful Brow Head Activation for IMD
Hi Lads,
Back now in a warm house, I wanted to thank all who helped or contributed
in making what was a successful activation of Brow Head for International
Marconi Day.
Set up went well from about 4pm on Friday with plenty of hands available to
erect four antennas. Three caravans turned up which provided sleeping
quarters, and we operated mostly from the AREN trailer which was very
comfortable and kept operators away from those wanting a quiet break.
Operations started at 1am local time on Saturday but around 2.30am the
mains power from the house we were plugged into tripped which put us off
the air. As the owner and family were asleep, we couldn't get back on the
air until around 9am. Having lost momentum it was hard to get it back, but
before too long the pileups began. In the end we logged about 600 QSOs
using three stations (SSB, CW and PSK31)--not a bad result considering less
than ideal band conditions and maximum 100 watts.
Special thanks go to those who made the trip: Jim 8GS, Hans 9GRB, Jack
7HO, Dave 9FBB, Jim 3DP, Brian 5HV and Ger 8HT; and also to our guest
operator Megan, age 9. Also, we want to thank Danny O'Keeffe for mains
power and a great parking area by his house.
Of course there are a few stories to tell--including the mystery of the
collapsing chair in the trailer, contacts on-air asking that the *other

operator sitting nearby not talk so loudly, and the earth rod driven into
the ground so that it changed into the shape of a 'U'--but those are for
another day. It was great fun and I, for one, look forward to IMD 2014.
Mark your calenders now for the next club outing--CW Field Day in Baltimore
on 1/2 June.
