Hi Lads,

A week to go now and it looks like the weather may change--but maybe rain
instead of cold. As a precaution, we will use the AREN trailer as
operating position for the CW and SSB stations. It offers comfortable
operating positions with a long table, two office chairs and a small
heater. We may also operate a PSK31 station from Hans' caravan if we have
enough operators.

So far I know of six coming from start to finish. CW operator so far is
only Jim 3DP. SSB operators are Jim 8GS, Hans 9GRB, Brian 5HV, Jack 7HO
and Tim Ei2KA. Dave 9FBB will drive down on the Saturday for part of the
day and there may be others. Let me know if you can come and operate for
at least a while. We have a great need for CW operators.

Please arrive at the site if you can around 4pm on Friday, 19 April (see
directions below). We have permission to set up at a house adjacent to the
Marconi site that has parking for two caravans (Jim 8GS and Hans 9GRB), the
AREN trailer and one or two cars, and mains power and water are available.
After unloading, most cars will need to be parked at the turnaround 50m
beyond the house. After setup we can relax and maybe go into Crookhaven
where there are several pubs and restaurants. The restaurants may not be
open if the weather is bad so I'd recommend you bring enough food and drink
for yourself for the weekend--and a sleeping bag. Anyone is welcome to
come see us even if they don't intend to operate, but note that parking may
be tight.

Ei5IMD operations start at 00:00UTC (1am local) Saturday morning, and we
will aim to operate for the full 24-hour period ending 23:59UTC on Saturday
night. Hopefully we can divide ourselves into 4-hour shifts so that the
load is shared--volunteers for the 1am and 5am shifts welcome. Note that
this is a special event station--not a contest--so feel free to give out
information about Marconi on Brow Head, etc. Pack-up on Sunday morning
should go pretty quickly so we can be off pretty much as soon as we need to.

I've already contacted those who will be bringing equipment, and thanks to
them in advance. The CW station will consist of a TS2000 with tuner, Kent
Two key (combination paddles and straight key) and a Hy-Gain DX-88 vertical
for 80-10m. The SSB station will consist of an IC-7000, MFJ-993B tuner and
40m dipole. Logging will be on laptops running SD, which is very simple to
use if you don't know it already.

I think that's all. I'll be monitoring 144.525 and the Cork Repeater on
the drive there. My number if you need me is 0858156144 <085%20815%206144>.

See you Friday,

Tim Ei2KA

Directions to Brow Head: Take the N71 for Skibbereen then follow signs for
Ballydehob/Schull/Goleen/Crookhaven. It's about 2hours from Cork.
Approaching Crookhaven you will see the harbour on your left. Go the whole
way around and about 100m after the right turning for Mizen Head (don't
turn here) the harbour disappears and land broadens on your right. Within
50m or so you will see a right turning signposted to Brow Head, just before
a small beach and parking area on your right. Turn right here for the
single track up to Brow Head. Mind yourself as it is a steep climb with
passing places. At the top you will see a house where we are based and
just after that a turning/parking area.
