Hi Gents,

A quick note to say thanks to all that helped and/or called in yesterday at
CIT. In the end we had great interest from students and staff alike at CIT,
with many stopping for a long chat and one lad actually working Don 8DJ on
the Cork Repeater. Twenty signed up for more information and if even a
third of that number takes it forward, I'd say there is a good possibility
of forming an amateur radio society at CIT.

We didn't make many radio contacts due to the very noisy location, but did
get as far as Toronto and the Ukraine on 15m phone. CW on 20m was a problem
as the antenna just wouldn't cooperate. Jim 8GS, Brian 5HV and Don 8DJ
called in on the Cork Repeater and Aedan 3EG set up an IRLP connection to
Australia but we were too busy at that moment to respond. Finbarr 1CS,
Conor 4JN and several other amateurs paid us a visit but it was too chaotic
to have much of a chat or even get all the names.

We also discovered CIT's radio shack located on the roof--a perfect spot
that was previously used for marine radio training. It is not being used at
the moment and could be a great location for an amateur station. There are
even a few rusty HF antennas and a luffing tower still there.

Again thanks to all, and in particular Ingo 2KF for getting permissions from
CIT management and fielding most of the questions, and to Gene 6KF for help
setting up and operating.
