Thanks for the info!
I have been exchanging emails with Francesco Ledda, off reflector, and the more I learn about Collins corporate culture, the more confused I become. Seems to be a kind of "close to the vest" management style which is quite foreign to my professional experience.
On the technology front, if an idea at Collins Radio wasn't protected by a patent then it was a trade secret which by it's very nature cannot be easily researched So trying to follow the progression of equipment development becomes quite difficult (read next to impossible) and is prone to opinion being accepted as fact in order to explain what has happened a generation or two before.
An example of this is the development of the 618S preceding the development AN/ARC-38. It is an accepted fact but it is not true. The odd thing is that this turnabout was discovered in a report to congress on the problems encountered with the R&D and reliability of the AN/ARC-21. Go figure!
Thanks again,
Jim

Subject: Re: [Collins] Collins research reports
Collins had an internal "Working Paper" system for publishing technical and other papers. I wrote several during my tenure at Newport Beach from Nov 1967 to July 1977. I think they had to be individuallly approved for external release but were available in every Collins facility Library for internal access. I've wondered whether the very large library of Working Papers was preserved anywhere, particularly in the Univ of Iowa Collins archives. 73,George, W1BOF In a message dated 4/30/2021 1:05:32 PM Eastern Standard Time, collins at mailman.qth.net writes:
Bell Telephone had the Bell Telephone Technical Journal, RCA had the RCA Review, did Collins have a means to publish technical research? I have seen Collins authors publish in IRE and IEEE pubs but have not noticed any in-house publications that were widely distributed.Jim Too much agreement kills a chat. E.
