I made this request on the 18th of February and just received it in digest form. I received no responses.
Well, I pondered the situation and I was able to figure it out myself. Here’s how I did it: I removed the two screws at the top of the escutcheon which freed the S-meter so it could be moved aside. That gave me sufficient room to work. Then I was able to use a pair of hemostats, or surgical clamps, to maneuver the metal rail on the bottom of the fiducial to a point where it lined up with the split washer on the control. I then turned the control and was able to get the rail back into the wheel and yay! now I can adjust the fiducial again. The only thing is the stop on the plus side is not working so I have to be careful I don't turn the control too far or it may come off again. The negative side stop works fine.
I then replaced the meter which was tricky because the washers and nuts are small and it is challenging not to have one drop into the radio which opens up a whole new area of frustration. However my Swiss curved tweezers and hemostats helped me do this without dropping amy parts.
I also noticed that the exciter tuning slug rack was a bit stiff and was starting to slip so I tackled that challenge while I had the radio on the bench. I cleaned it with 91% isopropyl then lubricated it with some synthetic clock oil courtesy of my friend Ross W1EKG. I then worked it through the range several times and then wiped off the excess oil. The exciter tuning is smooth and absolutely no slippage was detected. I then used a bit of soap and water to clean any oil off the two rubber wheels because isopropyl and oil is not good for the rubber, they are over 60 years old and I have no idea where I could get replacements.

It is tight in there and I am hoping that I do not have to remove the PTO and dial assembly to do this. Would appreciate any hints, tips, advice, experience, etc, with this job. It is a challenge.
