Hollywood did the research.. just shows how the radios work so much better, louder and more efficient (no power supply required)  than anywhere else.. 
but... at the same time.. while all this is going on.. the left over magic is used for real communications, with real Wyoming folks. 
And THAT is why the signals from Wy.. always get an S unit or more benefit.. in a crowd.

      I noticed the radios out at the interment camp were not connected to one another (Power supplies), but something was working.



And Florida to Wyoming on skip - wow....
