Subject: [Collins] 32V-2 knob needed

I am refurbishing a 32V-2 and need a Daka knob for the Emission switch.  This is the same knob that is used on the Meter switch and the Loading and Tuning capacitors.  It has a removable skirt of 1-1/2" diameter.  The eight fluted knob itself is 1-1/4" diameter and the smaller inner section of the knob which fits into the skirt should be 13/-16" diameter.  The proper knob should have two Bristol set screws spaced 90 degrees apart.  Please let me know what you have. upgrade to a beefier transformer.  It was working fine when removed.  I 
have no need for it anymore.  It is in good condition except for some 
cracking on  the insulation on a few leads which a sleeve would remedy.

To keep the cost down, I did not have solder mask or silk screening added to the boards from ExpressPCB.  So they are bare boards, but component installation is straightforward following the diagrams provided with the July 2014 QST article.

I have a Collins 75A1 that has been recapped  and is working well. I now need to replace the dial lights and those lights that illuminate each band. I have the replacement dial light bulbs to install, as well as a new dial. .

I bought a manual that was "allegedly" a complete reproduction of the original manual. To my surprise and dismay, the manual copy jumps from 5-14 to 6.1 . The needed information is on page 5-31 and pertinent surrounding pages. I hate to ask for assistance after purchasing an incomplete manual.

However my refurbish project is dead in the water until I get instructions for replacing the dial light bulbs and replacing the dial readout legend. I have a replacement dial but the one on the 75A1 looks like one of the plastic overlays with dial information thereon just like the one I recently purchased. It appears that the problem with the dull/dark/off color  dial is the yellowed paper/cardboard backing behind the imprinted plastic dial. Any thoughts on that and any instructions for replacing the plastic dial and paperboard backing for the dial?? What can I safely loosen up and not have the complete dial and stringing fall off? 

I really need to complete this project promptly, and any advice and instructions from anyone who has a  75A4 and manual and has experience with this part of the project will be greatly appreciated. I agree. Gary did a Drake 1A power transformer for me that had to be perfect in size and form and it was just perfect that way. In addition I got better quality wire and newer technology. He was very reasonable, fast, and responsive. I have never been more satisfied because the transformer was wxactly what it should have been. I cannot say too much about the job. 73, John, K5PGW

Don Jackson, W5QN did a excellent job of addressing that question in ?Signal?  4Q 2013, page 28, in ?30L-1 Instability-Cause & Cure". I would read that article to get the back story he was able to glean in his research.  In addition he adds some insight in stability issues with the amplifier.  Don asked for additional information from the readers concerning the cable length mystery.  Perhaps Don has an update he can share? 

I asked your same question a few years back on this reflector and the most common answer I got was to ignore the 20.5? cable note.  I choose to use a 20.5? length of cable.  For better or worse that is my choice and it all works great.  Losses in RG-58U in the HF range are not great and for the most part can be ignored for 20.5?  length in most low power environments.
