[Collins] Whats a 30K-4 worth?

Eugene,

I don’t know what the 30K-4 goes for, but I have seen unmodified 300Bs go for over $400, especially the 310B-3 with the built in antenna match. Modified ones would be worth less, of course. It sounds like a good opportunity. The modification to the 310x is probably to change the 80M doubler to a straight through amplifier stage for the PTO output. There may be changes to the following multiplier stage(s) to get 40M that you may want to remove as well.

You probably know this, but I would suggest changing any paper capacitors to modern film capacitors, and replacing any electrolytic capacitors as well. It might be wise to replace oil filled capacitors or at least fuse the high voltage (possibly in the 5V winding center taps) circuits so if an oil filled capacitor goes, it won’t destroy something made of unobtanium. The 310B-1 I acquired had at one point had an oil filled capacitor short which had taken out the HV supply choke. It was one of several surprises I found when I first opened it up.

It is lots of fun putting these old rigs back on the air.

It comes with a 310 (letter suffix not known at the moment) but again, the whole thing is operational. I was told that the exciter has had some modifcation to get it on 160. My interest is 80 and 40, not 160. The only other thing I know about it is it has had its "hard to find" modulator tubes replaced with a "more common" type tube that required only simple modification. The seller could not recall the details, but something about the 75TH maybe replaced with 100th?.
