Back then $50K went a long way in Qatar; now you can spend it in one day!
Getting access to a 1/4 wave of coax isnt always possible plus cutting is a
lot faster.
Around 1969 I was operating the ARRL CW DX contest one evening and was
getting deliberate QRM from an intown ham that hated contesters. I called a
local non ham friend who would do anything for a six pack and within the
hour the QRM was gone. Come to find out later "Brad" used his linemans
cutters and gloves and removed a section of every cable coming down the
tower; never had any more problems.......
